The North, where the world goes quiet

The Yukon is Canada at its most honest. Rivers the colour of glacier milk. Mountains with no names on any map a tourist holds. A population smaller than a city neighbourhood, spread across a territory bigger than most countries.

An elopement here is a journey into quiet. In summer the sun barely sets, and you can say your vows at midnight in full golden light. In winter the aurora moves over the snowfields and the cold makes you hold each other like your lives depend on it. Some days, they feel like they do.

This is adventure elopement in its purest form. No venue. No schedule nailed to a dashboard. A road, a river, a ridge, and the two of you travelling through it together while I document the whole thing in photo and film.

I am Yanick Lesperance, elopement photographer and filmmaker based in Eastern Canada. The North is the far end of my own map, and I take a small number of stories there each year so each one gets my whole heart. You get me. Nothing less. Nobody else.

FAQ

Questions about eloping in the Yukon

When can we elope under the midnight sun in the Yukon?

From late May to late July the Yukon sun barely sets. You can hold your ceremony at ten in the evening in full daylight, or at midnight in gold. It is one of the strangest and finest wedding lights on earth.

Can we see the northern lights at our Yukon elopement?

From late August to April, yes, when the nights come back and the skies stay clear. A winter elopement under the aurora is cold, demanding and completely unforgettable.

How do we get to the Yukon?

Fly to Whitehorse from Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton. From there the territory opens by road. I will help you shape the route, the stops and the days around the light.

Is a Yukon elopement difficult to plan?

It asks for respect, not heroics. Distances are long, weather is real, and preparation matters. That is what I am here for. I guide the planning as much as I document the day.

Can we marry legally in the Yukon?

Yes, with a Yukon marriage licence and an officiant in the territory. Many couples also sign the papers at home and keep the vows for the wild. I will point you to the right people.
